Kenny Smith is as tenacious as he is affable. With a smile as big as the moon, Kenny never gives up. Not on students or colleagues, not on the hope that public schools can be more equitable places. He simply never gives up. But it is his joy that is most winsome. In the most challenging situations, when the disappointments of an structurally biased system bear down, Kenny believes that change is possible. This belief courses through him, from his smile to his actions, inspiring others to also believe then to join him in the work to make change happen. Under the influence of educators like Kenny Smith, American public education can be the multicultural space where diversity allows us all to thrive. May it be so!

“When Kenny was 24 years old and a part time Bully Specialist I let him run school wide assemblies. He was able to engage 600 kids and (at 24 years old) he was still a baby in my eyes. I knew he had something special.”
Kienna Hughley
“I knew that the boys in my school responded well to males and I reached out to Kenny. My boys needed the Coach Jo-Jo experience! The boys loved what he brought to them.”
